Along the 500 mile journey from Cape Horn, at the southern tip of South America, to the Antarctic Peninsula, we were kept company by a variety of birds that rarely, if ever, make it to land...eating on the fly. Large Wandering Albatross have the largest wingspan of any living bird, with an average span of over 12'. The stubby Cape Sooty Petrels darted back and forth soaring on the wind and skimming the waters with a 3' wingspan.

The Drake Passage crossing is the roughest bit of water in the world, with waves averaging between 10' to well over 35'.
