The  OM

“Om” …  is a sound

                             a feeling

                                           a breath

                                                              moment

                                                                                      lifetime

a way of living in the world.

The Open PalmI come to life, travels and my photography with an open palm ... an empty rice bowl that is waiting to be filled.

Whether it is Tibetan Buddhism or The Science of Mind and Spirit, my journey continuously peels back layers of questions that lead to an understanding that leads to more questions … ending up at any point on the path with a deeper peace and serenity in knowing that everything is connected and part of the same essence.

OM

“ah”     “uh”     “mmmmmm”

OM MANE PADME HUMOm Mane Padme Hum is the Tibetan mantra one repeats softly, deeply and slowly again and again ... moving ever deeper into the Oneness, and expanding into the connectivity of people, places and things.

OM  MANI  PADME  HUM

This mantra is spoken in many cultures and varies in meaning.  As the prayer wheels spin in Tibet’s Samye Monastery, the inscribed mantra flies into a wind already full of incense and chants.  That entire trek was a perfect example of oneness and connection.  The people I met and the conversations we had all came from the same essence and connection.

Seeing the world through a lens and witnessing that connection by capturing the right light ... the perfect shadow ... the radiance of age, is what excites me about capturing an essence to reflect back on and enjoy.  Those moments are not coincidences.  They happen around us, to us and through us all the time.  If I keep the blinders off and listen to that still small voice within, that some call intuition, I will continue to witness these beautiful connections through the moments I capture.

ETERNAL FLAMESThe burning of Yak butter candles is ubiquitous in Tibetan monestaries and temples. Visitors bring this butter and add their bits to the dishes to maintain these eternal flames. Meditating in front of these flames helps focus our mind and release tension.

And that is why I chose the OM as a symbol for my website and my vision of traveling ... from my backyard to the far reaches of the globe.  The journey is already there, as is the photograph.  As long as I am centered and listen to, not just hear, that still small voice I will continue to be guided to many adventures ... and to many wonderful images that return me to those moments in time.

Join me on this adventure.
