When I moved to Los Angeles, my commute would take me under the LAX incoming flight paths (I love planes and flying). Around 7am many workday mornings, like clockwork, I'd fly under the huge Qantas 747 arriving from Sydney. "One day soon, I'm going to be aboard that jet! Two years later, I found myself in a window seat of that flight looking down at my morning commute....only I was the one arriving from Sydney after several weeks in Melbourne and Tasmania.
I chose Melbourne because I sensed it would be more manageable than Sydney, and I was right. Now I'm not the tour guide/bus tour kind of traveller. I do my homework and then walk...and walk...and walk. The path less travelled is my mantra and one that has led me to some awesome sights big and small.
A Melbourne walkabout takes you from the city center and its hidden Laneways to bohemian Fitzroy and Brunswick Street shops. Above all, my eye is usually caught by those things I find offbeat and unusual, or just plain quirky. If you haven't already been there, you'll see what I mean when you finally cross the Pacific and land in this most beautiful and hip town.
